La Contea di Samburu,  il livello di povertà, di risorse economiche e di educazione è estremo,

Qualche anno fa avevamo già visitato la scuola di Wamba che dista circa 2,5 ore di fuoristrada da Arches Post ma non ci eravamo impegnati con questa comunità per difficoltà nel gestire eventuali aiuti.

Adesso il nuovo Preside è Mr Lokato che già avevamo conosciuto perché ex Preside della scuola di Gir-Gir di Arches Post. E’ una persona estremamente affidabile e volenteroso, con cui è stato possibile instaurare un nuovo progetto di assistenza.

Di seguito la lettera di richiesta del Preside:

Subject: Letter of Intent to Support Vulnerable Students at Wamba CCM Comprehensive School
Dear Cristina,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to bring to your attention the dire situation faced by the most vulnerable students at Wamba CCM Comprehensive School. Due to parental negligence and extreme poverty, many of these children lack basic necessities such as food, shelter, and educational resources. As a result, they wander from place to place in search of food and a place to sleep, making it difficult for them to focus on their studies and secure a better future.
As I mentioned to you in January 2025, our school is struggling with several challenges, including:
1. Lack of lockers for students to safely store their belongings.
2. Insufficient water supply, making it difficult to maintain hygiene.
3. Urgent repairs needed for classrooms to create a safe learning environment.
4. Food insecurity, as the government provided only a small amount of food that will barely sustain us until July this year.
Despite these challenges, we have managed to rescue about 15 street children, providing them with a chance to rebuild their lives through education. However, without proper maintenance and support, they are at risk of returning to the streets. My deputy principal, we have put some intervention to accomodate these students and provide them with meals .

Given Maisha Marefu’s commitment to helping vulnerable children, we humbly seek any possible intervention from your side to save these bright students from life on the streets. Your past support has been invaluable to our learners, and we remain deeply grateful for your generosity.
Supporting vulnerable students requires a comprehensive approach that addresses their educational, emotional, and basic needs. Here are some possible interventions:
1. Educational Support.This us to support them with basic school supplies like school uniforms.Most of the come to school with tattered clothes thus reducing their self esteem.Emotional & Psychological Support
2. Counseling Services: Provide school counselors or mental health support.
3. Peer Support Groups: Encourage mentorship among students.
4. Awareness Programs: Educate teachers and students on mental health issues.
5. Basic Needs Assistance
6. Supplematary food provision since the school is not a boarding school thus cann6provide meals apart from lunch.
7. Health & Hygiene Support: Offer free medical checkups, sanitary products, and hygiene kits
8. Community Partnerships: Collaborate with NGOs and businesses for sponsorships.
9. Home Visits: Identify struggling students and offer targeted support
Our immediate need is the provision of food for these students for mornings and evenings and during the school holidays.If possible some beddings too because the school will provide a room for them to spend.
